As of September 9, 2026, GTA 6 launches in 71 days, on Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. That count is a straight calendar day count to a date Take-Two Interactive put in writing itself: its own release announcement states the game is "Launching November 19, 2026, for the PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S," not a window, not a quarter, an exact date from the publisher. A number in a blog post goes stale the moment you read it. Your personal countdown might run out sooner than this one
71 days assumes you are counting to a US midnight. Rockstar is not launching GTA 6 at one global instant, it is repeating the region by region rollout it used for GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, unlocking at midnight local time in each territory rather than everywhere at once. New Zealand's midnight lands roughly 18 to 19 hours before the US nationwide unlock at midnight Eastern, which means someone counting down to their own region's clock in New Zealand, Australia or Japan effectively finishes their countdown the better part of a day before someone in Ohio watching the same public number. Rockstar has already confirmed it will use that identical midnight local time mechanic for a date before launch, too. Its own pre-order announcement says preload access begins "at midnight local time," so the pattern is confirmed policy for at least one date on the calendar, not a rumor invented for launch day. The two delays that produced November 19
This date is not the one Rockstar first put out. GTA 6's debut trailer, posted December 4, 2023, only promised the game was coming in 2025. On May 2, 2025, Rockstar delayed that window to May 26, 2026. On November 6, 2025, alongside Take-Two's fiscal second quarter results, it delayed again, from May 26, 2026 to the current November 19, 2026. Rockstar's statement that day read: "We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve." There is a third data point worth knowing, even though it changed nothing publicly. Asked about the delays on David Senra's Founders podcast on May 17, 2026, months after that second delay, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said, "I think we're about 18 months behind the original date," which points to an internal target around spring 2025, earlier than the 2025 window fans first saw in the trailer. That is Zelnick reflecting on an internal target in a podcast interview, not a third public delay, and Rockstar has not detailed it further. Some outlets garbled this reconfirmation as a fresh delay when it resurfaced online; the release date itself never moved off November 19, 2026.
What still has to happen before day one
Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026, at midnight local time, for a $79.99 Standard Edition and a $99.99 Ultimate Edition, per Take-Two's own release. Anyone who pre-orders or buys the game before November 20, 2026, the day after launch, gets the Vintage Vice City Pack free, which is why that bonus is not only a pre-order incentive, it also covers day one buyers who never reserved a copy ahead of time. Before any of that, preloading opens November 12, 2026, one week ahead of launch, at midnight local time on both PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. Physical copies go on sale the same day. They ship in a box with a download code rather than a disc, so redeeming that code early gets a boxed copy the same head start a digital pre-order gets.
The date has now held longer than the gap between the last two delays
November 19, 2026 has gone unchanged for 307 days as of this post, longer than the 188 day gap between the May 2, 2025 delay and the November 6, 2025 delay that produced it. That is not a guarantee nothing changes in the 71 days left, but it is a real number, not a vibe. It has also held through more pressure than a quiet stretch on a calendar. An unauthorized gameplay leak under the name CyberLeek, a DMCA subpoena fight between Take-Two and Microsoft and Discord, a 26 minute official Extended Look that Rockstar premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026, and an August 7, 2026 earnings call all landed in the months since the November 6 announcement. What is still unknown
Rockstar has never published its own hour by hour regional release chart. Every schedule in circulation, including our own, is inferred from storefront listings rather than a Rockstar announcement, and even sites built specifically to track this countdown, like lfcarry.com, list the exact regional unlock hour as unconfirmed rather than official. That could firm up before November 19, or it could stay this way until launch day itself. There is still no PC release date, no confirmed timing for GTA 6 Online relative to the single player launch, and Rockstar has not elaborated on Zelnick's 18 month comment about the game's original internal target. None of that changes the 71 day count above, but none of it is settled either.
