Who is Jason Duval in GTA 6?

Jason Duval is one of GTA 6's two protagonists, alongside Lucia Caminos. Rockstar's official bio describes him as a man who grew up around "grifters and crooks," did a stint in the Army trying to leave a troubled adolescence behind, and ended up back in crime, working for drug runners in the Leonida Keys. His own line for it, printed on Rockstar's site: "Jason wants an easy life, but things just keep getting harder."

Who Jason Duval actually is

Rockstar's official character bio for Jason, published on rockstargames.com/VI, opens by framing him as someone whose ambitions keep outrunning his circumstances: "Jason aspires toward an uncomplicated existence, yet circumstances consistently work against him." Having "grown up surrounded by con artists and criminals," he served in the military as a way to escape his troubled teenage years, and he currently lives in the Leonida Keys, "working for local drug traffickers, though a change may be overdue." Rockstar gives him two signature lines on the same page: "If anything happens, I'm right behind you," and "Another day in paradise, right?" Both point the same direction, someone dependable, worn down, and quietly waiting for something to change. The Army, the Keys, and Brian Heder's boat yard

Jason does not own where he lives. Rockstar's official bio for Brian Heder, a veteran Keys smuggler, says Brian is "letting Jason live rent free at one of his properties, so long as he helps with local shakedowns, and stops by for Lori's sangria once in a while." Brian's own bio describes him as someone who "looks like a Leonida beach bum, moves like a great white shark," still moving product through his boat yard with his third wife Lori after handing off the riskier work to others, and reminiscing that he "hauled so much grass in that plane, I could make the state of Leonida levitate." Jason's day to day circle includes Cal Hampton, described in Rockstar's own bio as a friend who feels "safest hanging at home, snooping on Coast Guard comms with a few beers and some private browser tabs open." Cal's paranoia runs through his lines, "there are way too many birds flying around in perfect formation," and "the psychopaths are in charge, get used to it," but Rockstar's own summary of him draws a direct line to Jason: "Cal is at the low tide of America and happy there. Casual paranoia loves company, but his friend Jason has bigger plans." That is Rockstar telling you, through a supporting character's bio, that Jason wants out before the story even starts.

Meeting Lucia

Lucia Caminos is Jason's co-protagonist, and Rockstar's bios for the two of them are written to mirror each other. Jason's bio says meeting Lucia "could be the best or worst thing to ever happen to him." Lucia's own bio, which describes her as someone whose father "taught her to fight as soon as she could walk" before she landed in Leonida Penitentiary for "fighting for her family" and got out on "sheer luck," ends on the same idea flipped around: "A life with Jason could be her way out." Neither bio promises the partnership works out. Both frame it as a gamble. Once Lucia is out of Leonida Penitentiary, she moves in with Jason at his place in the Keys, a detail this site's Leonida Keys guide covers with its own sourcing. Rockstar has separately said the strength of Jason and Lucia's relationship feeds back into the story and how it ends, though it has not detailed what specifically moves that needle, and neither has this post: treat the mechanic as confirmed to exist, not yet explained.

What the Extended Look showed about how he plays

The August 27, 2026 Extended Look gave Jason his first extended gameplay footage. Red Bull's own recap of the video describes a skyscraper shootout sequence where "Jason takes cover behind walls before opening fire," with one on screen caption reading simply "Jason loads up for trouble," cover based combat rather than a scripted cutscene. A smaller detail carried more weight for some viewers. GameRant reported on May 13, 2025 that fans had spotted Jason aiming a rifle with both eyes open in official screenshots, a stance the outlet notes is "a technique commonly taught in the military" for better peripheral vision and faster target acquisition. It lines up with the Army service Rockstar already put in his official bio, gameplay detail matching the written backstory rather than contradicting it.

How he first appeared, trailer by trailer

Jason showed up before he had a name. The first trailer, released in December 2023, did not publish character names or bios at all, but its chaotic Vice City montage included Jason and Lucia together robbing Uncle Jack's Liquor, a scene this site's Vice City guide already covers in full, among quick cuts of beach parties, street races and getaways. The second trailer, on May 6, 2025, is where Rockstar confirmed both protagonists' full names for the first time and published their official written bios alongside it, the same bios this post quotes throughout. The Extended Look on August 27, 2026 followed roughly fifteen months later with the first sustained, in game gameplay of Jason in combat and traversal, described above.

What we still do not know

Rockstar has never confirmed who voices Jason or performs his motion capture. Community guesses, including Dylan Rourke and separately Gregory Joseph Connors, circulate widely online, but neither has been officially announced, and actor Troy Baker has publicly denied involvement. Treat any name attached to the role right now as unconfirmed. Jason's exact age is not stated anywhere in Rockstar's own material. A specific height figure, 6 feet 1 inch against Lucia's 5 feet 3 inches, repeats across several fan character guides, but none of them trace it back to an official Rockstar source, so treat it as unverified until Rockstar or a primary document says otherwise. And beyond the general statement that the couple's bond affects the ending, Rockstar has not explained how that is tracked or how visible it is during a normal playthrough.
