GTA 6 map: all six regions of Leonida explained
GTA 6 is set in the state of Leonida, which Rockstar has divided into six named regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. The names and one line descriptions come from Rockstar's own marketing. An exact map size in square kilometers does not exist yet; Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson has told preview attendees the whole state is roughly twice the size of GTA 5's map, which is an on record comparison, not an official spec.

Vice City
Vice City is the urban center of Leonida and Rockstar's own line for it, repeated across its marketing, is that it captures "the glamour, hustle and greed of America in a single city." It is the flagship setting, built around beaches, nightlife and a working port, and press who got hands on time with the preview build have described it as noticeably bigger than GTA 5's Los Santos on its own, before the rest of Leonida is even counted.

The Leonida Keys
South of Vice City, the Leonida Keys are a string of tropical islands, Rockstar's take on the real Florida Keys. Marketing copy describes life there as "not flashy, but easy," leaning into slower, coastal living rather than city chaos. Expect the region to lean on boats and coastal roads more than the rest of the map, based on what Rockstar has shown so far.
Grassrivers
Grassrivers is Leonida's wetlands region, styled after the Everglades. Rockstar has called it "the untamable jewel of Leonida's crown," and gameplay footage from the Extended Look showed alligators and swamp terrain consistent with that framing. It is the region most likely to play against Vice City's density: open, wild and built around water rather than streets.
Port Gellhorn
Port Gellhorn is a faded resort town, described in Rockstar's own material as Leonida's "forgotten coast," a place of cheap motels and shut down attractions past its prime. It is the clearest example so far of Rockstar building a region around decline rather than spectacle, in the same vein as GTA 5's Sandy Shores.
Ambrosia
Ambrosia is the agricultural and industrial stretch of the map, home to the kind of small town Americana Rockstar has leaned on before: diners, gas stations and roadside sprawl anchoring the state's interior. Details here are thinner than for Vice City or the coastal regions, since it has drawn less screen time in Rockstar's marketing so far.
Mount Kalaga National Park
Mount Kalaga is Leonida's northern wilderness, forested and mountainous, the region furthest removed from Vice City's urban core. Rockstar has shown less of it than the rest of the map, so treat the specifics of what you can do there as unconfirmed until more footage lands.
How big is Leonida, really
Rockstar has not published an official size for Leonida in square kilometers, and nothing here should be read as one. What exists instead is Rob Nelson, Rockstar North's co-studio head and head of development, telling attendees at a preview session that Leonida is twice the size of GTA 5's map and three times the size of Red Dead Redemption 2's map. That is an on record comment from a Rockstar developer, not an anonymous impression, but it is still a comparison, not a spec sheet. For scale, GTA 5's Los Santos and Blaine County is usually measured at around 75 square kilometres, most of it land. Doubling that would put Leonida near 150, but applying a rough multiplier to a community measurement of a different game is not a real number either. Treat any exact square kilometre figure you see for Leonida as invented until Rockstar publishes one.

If a site gives you an exact square kilometre figure for GTA 6, ask where it came from. As of now there is no official one, only Rob Nelson's two times and three times comparisons.
Vice City is not the whole map, and that is the point
Vice City is the part everyone knows, and the reason the series returning to Florida mattered. It is also, structurally, one region out of six. The Extended Look spent significant time outside it: wetlands, keys, a national park, a faded resort town, an industrial belt. GTA 5 had a similar shape, a dense city with a large rural hinterland, and the hinterland is where a lot of its most memorable content sat. Reading Leonida as Vice City plus filler is the mistake. Rockstar named the other five regions individually, with distinct environments, which is not what you do with filler.

What about the location names from the leaks?
Separate from the official six, map images circulating from the August 2026 leaks named places including Dalton Island, Tequesta Retreat, Gloriana Key, Catalan Key and Catalan Bay. None of those appeared in Rockstar's Extended Look. That does not make them fake. It does mean they are unconfirmed, they may be from a build reportedly over a year old, and any of them could have been renamed or cut. We list them here so you know what people are referring to, not as map facts. Everything in the six regions section above is from Rockstar; everything in this section is not.

What we still do not know about the map
Whether the map opens fully from the start or gates regions behind progress. Whether interiors are broadly enterable. Whether there is meaningful underwater space, which the Keys setting invites. Whether any region connects to online content. Rockstar has answered none of that, and we are not going to guess. This post gets updated with a date on it when it does.
