What Mount Kalaga National Park actually is
Mount Kalaga National Park is one of six regions Rockstar named inside the state of Leonida in GTA 6, alongside Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn and Ambrosia, all named in Rockstar's second trailer on May 6, 2025. It sits on Leonida's northern border, in Lummox County according to GTA Wiki's location listing, and it is the wilderness of the six: forested ridges, canyons, small lakes and rivers, a hard contrast to Vice City's skyline and the Keys' tropical coastline. Rockstar's own postcard style copy for the park reads: "Wild, Wild Country. Room to breathe on the state's northern fringes. A national landmark up against the state's northern border, Mount Kalaga offers prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails." A second line names who actually lives there: "In the lush surrounding backwoods, hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals live far from the prying eyes of the government." That exact wording is quoted identically across GTA Wiki and gta.guide's own location pages, both citing Rockstar's site directly. What Rockstar has actually shown, and what it has not
Mount Kalaga first appeared by name in the second trailer on May 6, 2025, and again in official screenshots released alongside it. Rockstar's Extended Look on August 27, 2026 added a short wilderness sequence, cut in with the rest of the 26 minute video, showing wooded ridges, a stream and off-road terrain consistent with the park's hunting and off-road trail billing. That is close to the extent of it. When GTA BOOM covered Rockstar's next batch of official material, 29 new screenshots posted on August 31, 2026, the outlet's own rundown lists Vice City, Ambrosia, Grassrivers, the Leonida Keys and Port Gellhorn as the locations covered. Mount Kalaga is not on that list. It is the only one of the six regions Rockstar skipped in that batch, and GTA Wiki's own entry for the park says plainly that Rockstar has shown less of it than the rest of the map. Treat anything more specific than what is above, full points of interest, named towns, or a labeled map, as not yet published.
The real world places behind the park
None of this is Rockstar confirmed, it comes from GTA Wiki and gta.guide's own research pages comparing footage and screenshots to real locations, but it is consistent across both. The canyon terrain draws on Providence Canyon State Park in southwestern Georgia, a real canyon system nicknamed Georgia's Little Grand Canyon. The mountain itself is compared to Table Rock in western North Carolina. The river running through the park is said to resemble Florida's own Suwannee River, and a rail bridge visible in footage is compared to the real Hillman Bridge near Ellaville, Florida. The name itself has a real origin: kalaga is a rendering of the Cherokee word kalvgv, meaning east or sunrise, which fits a park framed as Leonida's remote northern frontier. None of these comparisons are Rockstar's own words, they are pattern matching by reference sites against the footage Rockstar has released, so read them as informed analysis, not developer confirmation.
Wildlife and what there is to do there
Rockstar's own billing for the park, prime hunting, fishing and off-road trails, is backed up by GTA Wiki and GTA BOOM's separate location writeups, which both list deer, cougars and foxes as wildlife shown or referenced for the area, alongside activities that include hunting, fishing, kayaking and off-road dirt bike and ATV riding. One specific activity has a specific location behind it: official screenshots show off-road motorbike racing staged at an abandoned phosphate mine inside the park. That detail is not incidental. Real central Florida sits on top of Bone Valley, one of the largest phosphate reserves in the United States, and abandoned phosphate pits are a real fixture of the region's rural landscape, so an abandoned mine as a backdrop for off-road racing is Rockstar building the park out of an actual regional industry, not a generic quarry.
Who actually lives in the backwoods
Rockstar's postcard copy does not describe Mount Kalaga as empty. It specifically calls out hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals living in the surrounding backwoods, away from government eyes. That is the one piece of confirmed characterization Rockstar has given the region beyond geography and activities, and it is doing real work: it tells you the park is not just scenery for hunting and fishing, it has its own population Rockstar is setting up as distinct from Vice City's criminals or the Keys' smugglers. Fans and outlets, including GTA BOOM's own location page, have floated a comparison to Mount Chiliad and the rural Blaine County characters of GTA 5, untamed, unpredictable, off the grid. Rockstar has never made that comparison itself, and nothing officially published names a specific character or family living in the park yet, so treat the Chiliad comparison as a reasonable guess about tone, not a confirmed connection.
What we still do not know
Rockstar has not published a labeled map of the park's interior, so there is no confirmed town, named settlement, or full point of interest list beyond the abandoned phosphate mine shown in official screenshots. Whether hunting and fishing are full systems with their own mechanics, closer to Red Dead Redemption 2's hunting loop, or lighter set dressing activities, has not been detailed by Rockstar in the Extended Look or anywhere else. It is also still unclear why Mount Kalaga was left out of the August 31, 2026 screenshot batch when every other region got new material. That could mean Rockstar is saving a dedicated reveal for the park closer to launch, or it could mean nothing at all. Until Rockstar says more or publishes its own map, page or screenshot batch naming the park's interior, treat every landmark beyond what is confirmed above as reported, not official.
