The three starter choices
When you first load into Anime Vanguards, you pick one of three starter units: Ichiga, Luffo or Roku, parody versions of well known anime leads. You only get to pick once, so this is the unit you will lean on for your first few Story stages.
Why Luffo edges out the others
Luffo's passive, Greatest Pirate, grants a 5 percent random damage chance on every hit, and his fast attack speed means that chance comes up constantly. His line shaped attack also hits multiple enemies in a row, which keeps him useful through the first three Story stages. Roku and Ichiga hit harder per swing through their own passives, but both tend to fall off sooner, especially after the Planet Namak stages.
Don't get attached to any of them
All three starters are considered weak once you reach the late game, so do not spend heavy resources upgrading one. Treat your starter as a bridge: use it to clear early stages and farm gems, then replace it as soon as you can afford a stronger summon.
